Golf: A Good Walk Spoiled?

Mark Twain once said that Golf is a good walk spoiled. Now, for non-golfers, Mr. Twain clearly makes a good point. Part of the fun is that no two trips to the golf course are ever the same, whether you're a beginner, amateur or pro. This is mainly because weather conditions are never identical, and weather does play a big part in golf. When a golf ball is hit, it has spin, which can be enhanced by the wind, causing the ball to drift away from its intended target. Mark Twain may not have agreed, but golf is also an excellent form of exercise for those golfers who walk the course. Since a good course is about two miles around, playing eighteen holes is roughly equal to walking four miles. Playing golf is also a good excuse for getting out of the house and being outdoors. Golfers can also take pleasure in watching nature in action -- squirrels, rabbits, deer and in some locations even moose. For many people, playing golf is great therapy for beating the stresses of everyday life. Finally, golf is a game of honor.
